She’s turning into a girly girl

It really does amaze me how kids grow up so fast.  My daughter is almost 10 and I can see her mature a little bit more every day.  Now that she’s getting older, she is starting to lose interest in her tom boy ways and she is just discovering that she is a girl and likes to do things that girls enjoy doing.  She has started asking for make up (yeah, right!), skirts and jewelry.

Last weekend her aunt gave her some pieces of jewelry and she was just tickled pink.  Every day when she gets ready for school she is putting on her necklace, bracelets and rings.  I find this so…cute.  You see I never ended up being a girly girl.  I don’t like make-up and I don’t enjoy dressing up for any occasion.  Matter of fact, I don’t even own a dress.

Up until these past few months, I thought Kara was going to follow in my footsteps.  But nope, it seems like she enjoys being a girl!

Summer can’t come soon enough

Although right now I am looking at over three feet of snow when I look out my window, it has not stopped me dreaming about summer and summer vacation. I think I probably think more about it this time of year than I do in the summer. Now that I don’t work outside of the home anymore, we would be able to possibly go somewhere farther away for our vacation this summer. One of the destinations where we would dearly love to go would be to Alberta to visit my brother and his family.

Because they live almost 1000 miles away, the flight out there and back could be quite costly. This is why I have been doing some research on the Internet to find companies that offer good deals on flights. Not only have I been able to find great flights to Canada with dialaflight, but I have also discovered that they offer a whole lot more than just flight deals. Over at this site you will be able to find all kinds of information concerning flights, hotels and car hires. When your getting ready to book your vacation all you need to do is call this site and they will arrange everything for you.

So, if all the stars align and we have the extra money to go away this summer, you can bet that we will be headed to my brother’s home with all the arrangements made well in advance.

I need your advice!

Today I got a phone call from the guidance counselor at my kids school.  She was calling me to tell me that my daughter, who is in grade 4, was chosen from her school to go to a summer camp this summer that is really far away.  They only send one child per school per year and this year they picked my daughter stating that she is the most well-rounded child that they have in their school right now.  That is a great testament to the type of child and student that she is.  Now this opportunity is an awesome one, but I have a lot of reservations and concerns.

To be able to attend this camp, she must fly on an air plane.  Not only has she never been on an airplane, but she has never stayed overnight anywhere other than home.  She will be gone for nine days and will need to fly to her destination and back.  This trip is ALL expenses paid and is probably one of the best opportunities that this child will have in a very long time.

I know if I asked her if she would like to go, she would say a definite yes!  But, I don’t know if I can get passed my two biggest concerns.  One being that she will have to fly back and forth and the other being the fact that she has never been away from home.  She will be 10 in August so I know this is the time that I should be letting go just a bit.  But, she’s still my baby!!

What do you all think??  Any advice?

Friends Forever

One of my best friends moved away early last summer and I miss her terribly. Not only do I miss her, but I miss my little buddie as well. Well thankfully she is a very active blogger over at Rantings Of A Woman and I can pretty much keep in contact with her everyday. So, when she decided to give me this particular award, it certainly did make my day.

So Carrie, I’m giving this award back to you and Blake so you can both be aware that you will both ALWAYS be my friend forever. Make sure you tell Blake that I sent him an award, but no “blowie” flowers this time of year. Spring is coming. lol

Their invading my space

A couple of months ago, I was finally able to get the spare room in our house cleaned out and set up as a home office.  But I have noticed a trend happening lately.  It seems like my two youngest kids are trying to invade my space.  Over the weekend I went into my little room to do some cleaning and organizing and I found quite a few items in there that shouldn’t have been.  This particular room should only have my stuff in there, but I have found a few toys.  The toys aren’t mine and I didn’t put them there so I’m thinking my little ones were playing in there without my knowledge.  So after having a little word with them both, they have both promised to stay out of my space and keep their toys where they belong.  But knowing my two as well as I do, I have to wonder just how long this promise will last.

The boy in the ice box is sick!

In a previous post, I mentioned that my youngest son has a seriously bad habit of turning his heat OFF at night.  Therefore, when he wakes up in the morning his room is like an ice box.  I also stated that I wouldn’t be really surprised if he ended up sick because of this.  And…guess what?!  He did!!  Today he is home from school because he is sick!  He was up all night coughing so I couldn’t possibly send him to school today with having no sleep.  And because he got no sleep last night, neither did I.  So today I am tired and cranky and he is sick and cranky.  It’s not a good day to be around either one of us.  Hopefully he will have learned his lesson in all this and he will be more agreeable to keeping his heat on in the future.

His room is like an ice box!!

This morning when my husband went in to my youngest son’s room to wake him up for school he was greeted by an icy cold room.  Apparently sometime during the night, Daniel was hot so he decided to turn his heat completely OFF.  Now this normally wouldn’t have been a real big deal except the weather last night was one of the coldest nights that we have had this winter.  It was -19 with a wind chill factor of -38!  Now that’s way….to cold not to have any heat on in any room of the house.  So, of course when my son got up, he was coughing quite a bit.  I would not be surprised if he ended up sick because of this.  Other than constantly checking on him to make sure that he doesn’t touch his thermostat again, I have no idea how we are going to be able to convince him to keep his heat turned up.

If anyone here has any suggestions, I would love to hear from you.

New Collection

I am a collecting nut! Maybe that’s why my husband calls me a pack rat!? I love collecting, building up my collections and just looking at them. Right now I have several collections and some of them are spoons, thimbles, salt and pepper shakers, and cows. Well this past weekend while we were visiting my father in law, my daughter stumbled across a pig collection that my mother in law (she’s not with us any more) had. When she pointed out the little piggies to her grandfather he turned around and asked me if I would like the collection (he knows what kind of collecting nut I am) and of course I said yes! So now I have another collection to add to my collection. lol And because they were my mother in law’s, I will treasure them forever.

How about you guys? Do you have any collections?

Back to blogging

After 3 long weeks of having people underfoot, today I was finally able to get back to blogging.  I never realized how distracting two little ones and my husband can be when I’m trying to do some work on my computer.  Kids I can understand not understanding why I spend so much time on my computer, but my husband really doesn’t understand why I need to spend this time.  Sometimes I think he is the kid and the kids are the adults.  But it’s all good now.  They are all back to school and work so I now get to have the much needed computer time that I need.  Oh, good times!!

Affiliate Programs

I have been actively working online now for about two years.  During the past couple years I have been exposed to a lot of different types of programs.  I must say, that I have probably tried most of them.  I have researched a lot of affiliate programs.  Some seem to work for other people, but to date non have worked very well for me.  I realize that you need to promote any affiliate program that you belong to, but even with this extra advertising, I haven’t been able to make any affiliate program that I’m involved with create any extra income for me.

So, I was wondering what types of affiliate programs you all are involved in and how do you promote them successfully?  I’m sure that there is a secret to become successful in this online marketing venture, but I have no idea what this secret is.  So, if you are involved in affiliate programs and are creating some extra income each month through this means, I would love to hear from you.
