We’re going swimming!

My daughter brought home a permission slip yesterday for her to be able to go to the Aquatic center to go swimming with her class.  Now normally I allow her and her brother to go on every school trip without a moments hesitation, but this one did leave me a little frightened.  The main reason for this is because she can’t swim but thinks she can.  To me, that’s a pretty dangerous combination.  So for her to be able to go, I have decided that I have to go to supervise her.  You all know kids and when they get around their buddies they don’t want to admit that they are not as good as the other so they will try just about anything.  And that’s not going to happen at a pool.  So the first of next week she will be able to go on her trip, but I will be meeting her there.  That was the only way I would agree to this field trip.  She’s OK with this so I think it will all work out in the end.

    It is scary to let them go swimming with friends. I always worried.

    That’s a great decision! Not saying a complete NO, which will break her heart, but not a complete YES, which may put you in tremendous stress…

    I agree, when ever my kids have been invited to pool parties I have always gone to watch them. I kind of don’t trust anyone else to watch them but me, if you know what I mean. And I actually don’t love these pool parties and have not gone to a few because think it’s somewhat of a potential for danger too. That seems like a strange “field trip” for a school to be having. Just saying.

    I’m with ya on this one! I would be a bit reserved about her going without me too. Water and kids in large groups just scares me. I’d rather be there to keep an eye on my own.
