We met the new woman

My father in law dropped a massive bomb on the entire family earlier this month.  A lady that he has just started seeing this past couple of months and himself have decided to get married.  This was a bomb not only because it had only been 8 months since his wife of 48 years passed away, but no one  in the family had met her.  So we were all a little skeptical as to what was taking place.

This past weekend he brought her to our house to meet my husband and I and the kids.  Last week she had met my sister in law.  I really have to say that I was quite surprised when I met her.  She seemed to be a really nice lady and seems to really care for my father in law.  So although they haven’t known one another very long, I am more optimistic that this relationship will work out.  Time will tell I guess.

I need to get a passport

I’m going to have to get a passport before July of 2009. Our government just announced that any Canadian who wishes to cross the border after July 2009 will be required to show a valid Canadian passport. And this is one thing that I currently do not own. I have never needed one before so I never have really given this much thought. But after July 2009 my driver’s license won’t be good enough to use as ID for the US. So I guess I’m going to need to make an appointment and get this thing taken care of before the rush.

Happy day but kind of sad

Today is a really good day at our house.  It is mine and my husband’s 7th wedding anniversary.  Yup seven years ago the entire family walked down the isle to say “I do”.  Although my husband and I have been together for over 14 years, it took him well over 7 years to convince me to get married.  But after seven years of marital bliss (cough), I’m certainly glad I did.

Now for the sad part.  Today is also the day of the anniversary of my father’s death.  Four years ago today my dad passed away from lung cancer.  So although I do celebrate this day with my husband, a little part of my heart is sad as it is also the day I lost my father.

I really need to stop browsing

While browsing the Internet, which I so often do, I came across a product that I would dearly love to have. It’s a Nokia N810 and is the neatest electronic product that I have seen in a very long time. I don’t really need one, I just want one. But because it comes with a pretty high price tag, I think I’ll have to put this particular item on hold. But if I sell some of my handcrafted jewelry at some of the craft fairs that I will be attending, then maybe I can take this profit and purchase one.

Where to take old textbooks?

About a month ago I cleaned out my craft closet and took out a box that had a bunch of old textbooks in it that I had used when I went to college 14 years ago. I really have no clue why I kept them this long. So last week I decided to take them to my local library to donate. Funny thing was, because they were so old and outdated the library didn’t want them! Now I don’t know what to do with them? If anyone has any ideas on how I may get rid of them could you please let me know. I really don’t want to throw them out!

Final day of art camp

Today is the kid’s final day of art camp for the summer season.  They were actually suppose to attend next week as well, but because of the low enrollment, the town decided to cancel for next week.  The kids were a little disappointed with this, but since they did get to attend for three weeks, they really haven’t complained too badly about this.

They had a blast during the three weeks that they were able to attend.  And their instructor was amazing.  My son is extremely shy but he took right to her which made his camp experience all the more enjoyable.  If they decide to offer this camp again next summer, I’m going to enroll the kids in at least a week.  They really did have fun, but their time has ended now.  Oh goody!  I get them home 24/7 for the next five weeks of summer.  LOL

Graduation present

The other day, while talking to my oldest son on the phone, I asked him what type of present he would like for graduation from college. He is done at the end of August. I was quite surprised with his answer. He asked me if I could purchase him some tactical gear. Apparently that is his new hobby. Collecting tactical gear. Because I haven’t seen him in well over a year I was really unsure as to what types of things he is into now. Now I know. Now all I have to do is find some of these things for him and ship them off in time for graduation.

Buying baby gifts

For a person who hates to shop, I had so much fun shopping yesterday! My niece is expecting her baby very soon so I hit the malls yesterday in hopes of finding cute little baby gifts for her. She really has everything she needs for this child, so I wanted to find stuff that she didn’t exactly need but that were still cute. I was in luck. I found a couple of squeaky toys that are sure to please baby and found a couple of adorable outfits as well. So I guess I don’t hate to shop, I just hate to shop for items that are not fun.

Two great kids!

I know I moan and complain a lot about my two younger children and all their fighting, but sometimes they can be so sweet.  Like this morning.  I woke up this morning with a headache so I laid down on the couch for a little while.  After I got up and was sitting at my computer my daughter asked me if I had seen their surprise.  She told me the surprise was in the bathroom.  So I went to look to see what damage they had caused.  The damage was…that they had both folded all the laundry that was on top of the dryer and that was in the dryer.  They then put all their own clothes away and placed mine and my husband’s on our bed.  So yeah, they can be bad, but on days like today they have also shown that they can be good.

He’s getting married.

A couple of weeks ago my father in law informed us that he is getting married to a woman that he has only known for a couple of months. For those of you who aren’t aware of this story. My mother in law passed away in September of last year after a two year battle with stomach cancer. Her and my father in law had been married for over 48 years at the time of her death. My father in law was devastated by his loss. But he eventually did move on.

The family is not really impressed with his deciding to marry after such a short time in morning, but he’s an adult and his mind made up, so what can you do?! I don’t think I’ll be running out and purchasing any bridal lingerie for his wife to be. But I will support his decision in the best way that I can and try to be happy for him. Oh…my husband is going to be his best man.
