My crafting business
Over the past few months I have discovered that running a small home business is not as easy as I thought it would be. I assumed by setting up a website and blog that I would have tons of visitors coming to my site and begging for my products. This has not happened. So I have decided to try something different. I’m going to order some personalized pens and start handing them out to everyone I know. Maybe this will get the word out and hopefully generate more sales for me. I’ll let you all know how I make out in this advertising adventure.

Way before I started this blog, I had a website specially for my handmade accessories….Any sales for me? ZERO! After almost 1 year, I got nothing but a whole pack of irritating comments like, “what sort junk is these!….” *urgggghhhh* So I deleted the website completely!

I always thought starting up a business would be very difficult and would take up all my time so I did not do it. At one time, I thought it would be fun to own and run a bowling alley, but when I thought about how much time it would take, I decided to let that idea go out the window. I do wish you success in your craft business. I thought I’d sell more books if I had a blog about it and my dad called “My Funny Dad, Harry” but so far, I’ve only sold one through it that I know of (http://karenzemek.blogspot.com). Oh well, fortunately, I have a day job that pays regularly!

I know what you mean; it really takes a lot of work. Are you familiar with Etsy.com
If not you might want to check it out. People have become quite successful through this. I have a store: mommyandmeboutique.etsy.com It is pretty depleted right now as I was sick for several months, but I am just about ready to get things going again. Also, I sell in a nice upscale Boutique which keeps me pretty busy, so the etsy store get neglected. I wish you great success.
That will be very interesting, I am always looking for new ways to promote.

That is a very good idea. I have considered doing magnets for mine, but havent gotten around to it yet. I used to sell on Ebay, and did quite well, until I refused to keep paying their fees. I have tried tons of other sites, to no avail. I did just have my first Etsy sale, so I was pleased with that. I find the absolute best way to advertise your stuff, is to either have yourself, or friends and family show off your stuff. For me I make jewelry, so I give it as gifts, and everytime they wear it I get free advertising. I have generated at least 10 private requests that way. Good luck

I’ve has some success promoting my blog using Vista business cards. They are about $7 fpr 250 cards. I am not selling a product just promoting the blog. I would love to know if the pens help in promoting.

Oh! Kim do you have a link to your sites? I love crafts.
I have a link on my blog to a forum for online sellers, lots of helpful advice, but I don’t want to appear spammy on your blog! LOL!
Try a flyer at your library too. Most have a bulletin board where you can advertise for free!

I think that would be a good way of advertising. Hopefully it won’t be too costly on your part.
