I need to get a passport

I’m going to have to get a passport before July of 2009. Our government just announced that any Canadian who wishes to cross the border after July 2009 will be required to show a valid Canadian passport. And this is one thing that I currently do not own. I have never needed one before so I never have really given this much thought. But after July 2009 my driver’s license won’t be good enough to use as ID for the US. So I guess I’m going to need to make an appointment and get this thing taken care of before the rush.

    We have the same issue here in the USA if we wish to travel borth to Canada now too, so should we plan to do that we will also need to get passports. We have a huge waiting time, though it has gotten a bit better.

    Yes, there are a lot of changes. I was in Canada 2 years ago, no problems, but now Passports are needed. Even when visiting Mexico on a cruise ship recently we were encouraged to carry our passports at all times. Never had to use them,but they were required.

    I have to do the same thing. I’ve had the paperwork filled out for weeks, but haven’t taken it to the passport office.

    When we visited Niagara falls in Canada last year we could see the bridge that linked Canada and the US. We didn’t realize you didn’t need a passport to cross the border. I guess they are tightening up on security betweeen the two countries. Atleast the government has given you sufficient notice to get your passport, rather than at the last minute.
