Selling my jewelry

This coming weekend one of my friends is holding a yard sale at her house and has invited me to come down with some of my handcrafted jewelry and try to sell them. For a yard sale like this, I really wish I could have some marketing pens to advertise my crafting business as well as my website. But since I don’t have any of these promotional tools on hand, I guess I’ll have to let my work speak for itself. Keep your fingers crossed for me that I have a ton of sales and sell everything I have.

Update on my costly car

Yesterday I went to the motor vehicle and spent the $75.00 to license the stupid thing. Yes, I’m calling my car stupid because on the way home it started acting up. After my husband got home I told him about the troubles I was having so he went out to look at it. He came back inside with a sad expression on his face. Apparently there is something in my engine that isn’t working right. So now I’m going to have to take it somewhere, pay them to look at it and possibly have to pay for some car parts as well. I knew it was a bad idea to keep this stupid car and if it’s going to end up costing me quite a bit of money to get it fixed, I will then start driving his car whether I want to or not and sell mine.

The expense of owning a car

Later today I need to go to our motor vehicle branch to license my car.  This little venture is going to cost me $75.00.  This got me to thinking about how much money I spend maintaining a car that I really don’t need.  The reason why I don’t need it is because my husband’s car sits home everyday and doesn’t move.  It doesn’t move because I’m not comfortable driving it.  But either I have to start driving his car or figure out something else to do.  Right now we pay insurance on two vehicles, licensing two vehicles and inspecting two vehicles.  So in a run of a year it adds up to quite a bit of  money.  And because his car is the more expensive of the two it only makes sense to keep his car.  So I have a decision to make.  Learn to drive his car, or….start walking.

My crafting business

Over the past few months I have discovered that running a small home business is not as easy as I thought it would be. I assumed by setting up a website and blog that I would have tons of visitors coming to my site and begging for my products. This has not happened. So I have decided to try something different. I’m going to order some personalized pens and start handing them out to everyone I know. Maybe this will get the word out and hopefully generate more sales for me. I’ll let you all know how I make out in this advertising adventure.

No camping for this weekend

Now that the weekend is finally here, the kids have been looking forward to another camping trip.  But, due to the weather, this is not going to happen.  I personally don’t think it’s a real big deal that we can’t go, but the kids are quite disappointed.  They really do look forward to these trips and usually have a great time when we go on them.  Oh well.  I suppose I can’t hope for sunshine every weekend now can I?  Well we will just have to find something else to do this weekend.  Maybe I could clean my house??  Yeah right!  That’s not going to happen.   But I’m sure we will have a good weekend anyway.

Minor fender benders

Our insurance companies just announced that they will be placing a cap on the amount of damages that one can get rewarded for being in minor accidents. They claim this was put in place due in part to the amount of insurance claims that people have been filing over the years for minor accidents. I guess if your involved in any thing major you would probably need to contact someone like the Chicago personal injury lawyers to look into your case. In most instances I do feel this is a good move for insurance companies to make as long as the people who pay for insurance (like me) will ultimately see a decrease in their policies. Time will tell I guess.

He’s looking better

Although I haven’t seen my oldest son (he moved quite far away) in over a year, we do communicate by e-mail and telephone calls. It’s not the same thing as being with him in person, but at least I get to talk to him and see pictures of him. In his last e-mail he sent me, he sent me a couple of photos as well. He hasn’t changed much except he doesn’t have a quarter of the acne that he used to have. Whatever treatment is is using seems to be working. Now all he has to do is invest in some acne scars cream and his face will be the smoothest it’s been since he was a baby. He’s very happy where he’s at and it shows in his photos. I just wish I could see him in person more often.

Sad and crappy day today

Although the sun  is shining and the temperature outside is quite warm, I am having a very crappy day today.  Today would have been my parent’s 44th wedding anniversary.  But…they both passed away in 2004 so there will be no celebration today.  Before my dad (who passed away first) died at the end of July, him and my mother made it to 40 years of married bliss.  Although he was quite sick at the time, we still enjoyed getting together as a family and having a little party.  But with them both gone, I can’t seem to get passed this sadness.  Especially today which would have been their anniversary.  But I keep plugging away at life as I know this sadness will pass.  But it’s still difficult.

School shopping

Later this afternoon the kids will be headed back to their summer day camp. After having them home for two weeks, there is so much that I need to get done. One of the things I really need to do is to start the kids school shopping. Having two kids going back to school, this little venture is going to cost me a little bit of money. So this afternoon after I drop the kids off at camp, I’m going shopping. I was reading in the flyers that our local shopping center is having a huge sale today and tomorrow on all back to school clothes. So I am going to try to find each of the kids a few outfits to go back to school in.

Sometime next month I will go out and purchase all their supplies that they are going to need. And by the looks of both their lists, it’s going to require some serious cash to get this all done. I also have some plans of doing some of this shopping online. With the great deals that I will be able to get at buy.com I figured that this would be one way that I could save a ton of money. From looking at their weekly deals page I have decided to purchase the kids their shoes from this site. Because both kids need two pairs of shoes each this online purchase is going to save me a lot of money.

I will save so much cash that I may even be able to buy myself something nice. I was just checking out their weekly deals page and seen something I would like to purchase with the money I would save from my other shopping. I would love to have a new iPod and with a starting price at $59.99, I can’t go wrong.

Another great weekend!

Although the first of the summer wasn’t very good for camping, I have to say that the last couple of weeks have been super.  We were able to get away again this weekend (that’s why there were no posts) and once again we all had a blast.  The kids were able to play at the playground, go down to the fish pond, go swimming and go to the drive in movies.  Not only are we having so much fun because of all the activities the kids get to be involved with while we are away, but also because of the brand new trailer that we purchased.  So we will be all keep our fingers crossed for another great weekend this upcoming weekend.  But if that doesn’t happen that will still be OK as there is still plenty of time left in the summer months to enjoy camping when we can.
