He loves his grand kids

Yesterday we went to dinner at my father in law’s.  Yes, it stopped snowing and we were able to attend.  Well after dinner my father in law informed the kids that he bought a new game for the computer.  The game he bought was Sponge Bob Square Pants.  So obviously this game was not for him.  He is so cute.  He is always looking for little things to buy the kids and it makes them so happy when he does these small little things for him.

So he set up the game for them to play and then he sat down and played the game with them.  It is so sweet to watch him with the kids and I know that they get just as much enjoyment out of this as they do.  Since  my husband’s mother passed away in September, his father has been pretty lonely and spending time with the kids is one of the ways that he uses to help him to not be so lonely.  So they left their game at his house so the next time they go down to visit him, they will be able to play with him again.

Their home for nine days!

When my daughter gets off the school bus today, it will officially be the start of the kid’s March break. That means nine whole days of having them home and underfoot. Their actually not real bad kids, it’s just that they get bored and start fighting a lot. And because it’s so cold outside, I can’t even send them outside to play. It’s weeks like this that I really wish I could afford to rent a room in one of the hotels in Vegas. A vacation of this type would certainly give them something to do. But because were poor and my husband has to work, we will be staying home. Hopefully I can plan enough activities to keep them so busy that they forget to fight.

The date was a bust!

Well I would like to say that our date last night turned out great and it was magical and all that good stuff, but I can’t!  While we were getting ready to go out, he got a phone call.  Yup, he got called out to go to work.  So guess where that left me.  Home with the kids.  It honestly shouldn’t have surprised me as much as it did, as his work is constantly doing this to us, but I have to tell you that I’m starting to get mad.

I understand he has to work for a living, but there is a serious problem when some one’s work becomes their life.  This is the way things are headed in our household.  And yes, he was just as mad about the whole situation as I was (maybe more), but what can you do?  He had to go.  So the kids and I just stayed home and watched a bit of TV.  I don’t know when he got home (I went to bed), but I can tell you that this event did not improve his mood one little bit.  So no date and I still get to live with a bear.

Were going out on a date!

A couple of weeks ago my husband’s father offered his baby sitting services to us.  So we decided that we would take him up on his kind offer and go out on a date tonight.  We are going to go out for dinner and then to watch a show.  This probably doesn’t sound real exciting to all you guys, but since my husband and I haven’t been out alone for almost a year, this night is quite exciting to me.  My husband has been in a very “foul” mood for the past week and I’m hoping that an evening out is just what the doctor ordered.  It certainly can’t hurt.  So the kids will be with grampie and my husband and I will be alone for once.  It’s a win win situation all the way around.  Except for my father in law.  But hey, he offered!

He’s been a bear

For the past week I swear I’ve been living with a bear. In the past 15 years, I don’t think I’ve ever seen my husband in this type of foul mood for so long. First I thought it may have something to do with the fact that last Thursday was his birthday and he was not looking forward to getting older, then I thought it may have to do with the fact that it was his first birthday without his mother. But because it has gone on for so long, I’m not sure what to think any more. Honestly guys I’m thinking about taking him to one of the Branson resorts just to get away. Maybe with a little rest and relaxation I’ll have my husband back and not the bear that I am currently living with.

His first birthday party without “mommy”

Oh my little man is growing up!  Today he was invited to a birthday party and for the very first time, my husband or I didn’t stay.  So he went to his first birthday party by himself.  My husband drove him (I didn’t know where to go) and then I went to pick him up (with directions from my husband).  And…he did great!  Daniel is quite a shy child, so I guess that’s why I have a tendency to overprotect him.  But he has to grow up sometime so I had to let him spread his wings.  I was actually quite surprised at myself, as I was extremely calm when I sent him on his way.  He did good and is looking forward to the next party on his own.

Oh man.  It doesn’t take them long to want independence after they have had a little taste of freedom now does it??

I’m not much of a travelor

Funny story. True story. Last month I had to go out out of town to attend a friends wedding. You will never guess what I forgot to take?! Yes, if you guessed travel supplies, then you guessed right. Oh I had all the essentials such as clothing and stuff, but I really shocked myself at what I didn’t bring. I don’t normally go away from home very often, so this is the excuse I’m using. Now if I did travel a lot, you can be that I would have all my supplies packed up and never unpacked unless I’m using them on a trip. Oh well, live and learn. That’s my motto.

One of my son’s dreams

Although my son is only seven, he is a serious rodeo fan. Every weekend he is glued to the TV watching different rodeos and has expressed a serious interest in attending one in person. This is so out of character for him, as normally he is sitting in front of the TV watching cartoons. But, if you tell him there is a show about a rodeo on TV, he is quick to change the channel. So, I swear, one of these days I am going to take him to see a rodeo show up close and personal and if I can get cheap National Finals Rodeo tickets that will be the event that I will take him to.

As most of the rodeos that he watches are from the US and we live in Canada, I will have to save quite a bit of money for the tickets, cost of getting to the location and accommodations. So taking him to a show this year or next may not be in the cards, I will save up the money to be able to give him this trip of a lifetime. And, when I do have all this money saved up, I am going to purchase the tickets online so I can be assured of getting the best possible seats possible for my young son. Honestly, if I can pull this off, he will be the happiest kid on this earth. Now all I need to do is start saving money. Until then, he will have to be content with watching the events on TV and pretending that he is there.

They are so excited!!

My two younger kids enjoy celebrating anyones birthday.  Not just their own.  Their father’s birthday will be here on Thursday and I swear they are more excited about this event than he is.  For the past couple of weeks they have been making all sorts of birthday decorations and hiding them from him.  For quite awhile now my son (who is 7) has been saving his money to buy his father a present (he saved $12.00) and they have plans for a major party for him.

So yesterday the kids talked me into taking them shopping for a present for their father.  It was actually quite cute as he drove us to the store, but they would not allow him to come into the store.  So after a little looking around they each bought him a couple of tools.  Even though he has tons of tools, these presents will probably mean the most to him in life as these presents were bought with the kid’s own money.  Now their just counting down the days.

He doesn’t know what he’s getting himself into!!

My father-in-law popped in today for a visit with the kids.  While he was here, he offered his babysitting services to us for any time that my husband and I would like to go out without the children.  I thought he knew his grandchildren better than that. lol

But since he made the offer, my husband and I will take him up on it at least once.  That may be all he is willing to do.  The kids aren’t that bad, but they do love to fight and I don’t think that he realizes just how much they do fight!  But hopefully they will be good for him and we may have a sitter once again to have a little alone time for just him and me.  I guess we will just have to see how the first evening out goes.
