Christmas baking

Well I’m a little embarrassed to admit this, but I am so…not a cook or baker. Over the years I have tried, but if it isn’t a simple recipe I just can’t seem to get it. So every year at Christmas time I spend a fortune on holiday baking. Well this year I don’t have to do that. Yes, I still have to buy a few things, but I have someone (or should I say two people) who is going to do some baking for me. One of my great blogging buddies Tammy is making me some peanut butter balls and her sister (sorry Sharla can’t give you a link- no blog) is going to make me some chocolate marshmallow squares and yes…some cherry balls!! So because of these two I’m going to end up saving quite a bit of cash this year. I just hope I won’t have to put that extra cash into diet pills after the holidays are over.

So my family will get to eat quite a few little treats this season and I get to save a little cash. It’s a win-win situation.

A Vegas Christmas present

How would you all like to receive a vegas vacation for a Christmas present? Well…that’s exactly what one of my friends got for Christmas. All her kids pitched their money together and bought her an all expenses paid holiday to Vegas. She leaves sometime in March and is so excited. Well I guess if I were her, I would be pretty excited too! But since two of my kids are in elementary school and don’t have jobs yet, I probably shouldn’t expect the same gift from them. lol But still, it would be an awesome gift to receive.

Delicate situation

My daughter now has a best friend. Only problem is is that her and her best friend insist on spending every waking hour together. At first I thought this was cute and was quite happy that she finally had someone around our park to chum out with. But now things are starting to get a little out of hand and I’m not really sure where to proceed with this.

This other girl shows up on the door step first thing every morning to walk with the kids to the bus stop. She is calling constantly for her to go to her place to play or for her to come here and is also begging for sleepovers. I have tried to explain to the girls that they can’t spend every day all day together. Especially on a school night. Now she has taken to start waiting for her at the bus stop until she gets home (my daughter comes home on a later bus). When she gets off the bus they are at me to let her go to her house. But I have told them both. Not on a school night.

Now for the tricky part. This girl just happens to be my husband’s bosses daughter. So when we tell the girl or our daughter no we are walking on very thin ice just waiting to see what will be said because we said “no”. But I have told my husband just because she is the bosses daughter we cannot relax the rules. I just hope that over time this situation straightens out itself.

I have to find my ear plugs!

It was bound to happen. I couldn’t put it off any longer. My daughter who is 10 went on her first sleepover last weekend. Now she did really well and I didn’t get any phone calls in the middle of the night, but…now she wants her friend to stay over this weekend. She has never had anyone sleep over before so this is quite an exciting time for her. And with excitement, comes noise. But I’m happy that she has finally found a friend where she is comfortable having sleep at her house and her sleep at the girl’s house so I guess I’ll just have to find the ear plugs and be happy that my daughter is turning into a little girl.

The big night is tomorrow night so I’ll be sure to let you all know how I make out with this.

Generous man

My husband is such a generous old soul. If he can help people out, he will. Last night our neighbor’s young son was telling my husband all about the troubles that he was having with his computer. Now this family doesn’t have a whole lot of money and would probably not replace this kid’s computer. So my husband (being the nice man that he is) gave this kid our old computer. Not only did he give him the monitor, hard drive, and keyboard, but he also gave him the steering wheel and scanner as well. The steering wheel and scanner won’t work with any of our laptops so he figured the kid may as well get some use out of it. Just to see the look on this kid’s face was well worth giving him all this stuff.

I’m just glad we were able to help him out.

He’s turning himself around

I am so happy for my best friend. Yesterday I got a phone call from her telling me of the amazing progress that her son is achieving. There for a while she was quite worried about him as it looked like he was headed down a very dangerous path. Having an older son of my own who has made some pretty stupid choices in life I could relate well. But, according to her he is ff the drugs and alcohol and looks like he may not need to enter an alcohol rehab center after all. Hopefully he can stay clean and sober on his own and turn his life around. So far he’s doing really well. For her sake as well as his, I really hope this trend continues.

I couldn’t believe it was her

It’s been over 20 years since I have seen my best friend from high school. Just out of the blue she called me last week and wanted to get together to re-connect. Although the phone call was a major surprise, I did jump at the chance to get to see her again. So you can imagine my major astonishment when I seen her at the coffee shop. When we were in high school she was a bit overweight and I couldn’t believe the weight loss she had achieved. I haven’t changed all that much since high school, but she certainly has. She looks great and feels great! Now that we’ve re-connected, we are both going to do everything in our power not to lose touch again.

Business is booming

Many of you may not be aware that I have just recently started a brand new home crafting business over at Simply Crafting. So far things are going a little slow, but business has started to pick up. A little over a month ago a friend of mine commissioned me to make her a quilt. Well I am happy to report that this quilt is almost finished and I did give my friend a sneak peak of her quilt. She loves it!! She loves it so much, that she has already asked me to make her TWO more before May 1. Because of the type of quilt it is, I already agreed to these two quilts in this time frame.

So, I am extremely happy to report that business is picking up. I also have a knitted afghan on the go that I will eventually be selling as well as trying my hand at home made jewelry. So, although right now the orders coming in are kind of slow, I have no doubt that very soon business will be booming.
