The future is scary

In less than a month I will be turning 40. And I have to say that I can’t ever remember in my life time people having so many addiction problems and communities needing so many drug rehabs as we need now. It seems like every time you hear the news or pick up a newspaper someone has done something quite serious because of drug addictions. This really scares me. I have two small children that I am trying to bring up right and with so many temptations out there now, I honestly get frightened thinking about what troubles they could find themselves in. I realize that we need all these drug rehab centers, but sometimes I do sit and wonder how many more we will end up needing in the near future.

He’s turning himself around

I am so happy for my best friend. Yesterday I got a phone call from her telling me of the amazing progress that her son is achieving. There for a while she was quite worried about him as it looked like he was headed down a very dangerous path. Having an older son of my own who has made some pretty stupid choices in life I could relate well. But, according to her he is ff the drugs and alcohol and looks like he may not need to enter an alcohol rehab center after all. Hopefully he can stay clean and sober on his own and turn his life around. So far he’s doing really well. For her sake as well as his, I really hope this trend continues.

It must be because I’m getting older

Growing up, I never knew what it was like to experience a headache. And..when other’s started talking about migraines, it seemed like a foreign word to me. Unfortunately that isn’t the case any longer. I don’t know if this is because I am getting older or what, but over the past couple of years I have been experiencing some massive migraine headaches. When I feel one coming on, I can’t get to my medication fast enough. I have heard about a different type of product called Botox for migraines and I really have to wonder if it works any better than what I currently take. If it does, I’m seriously going to think about investing in it.

I can feel one coming on now so I think I’ll step away from the computer for a while. See you all later.

I need a new bracelet

While I was growing up, we discovered that I have a lot of allergies to different medications. I did where a medical alert bracelet when I was younger, but over the years I’ve misplaced it and have never replaced it again. This got me to thinking about how this is not safe. If anything ever happened to me and I was unable to tell anyone of my allergies, I would be in major trouble. Some of my allergies are quite sever.

So I think that I really need to buy some medical alert jewelry to keep me safer. Because I have such small wrists and wearing anything on my wrists bothers me, I think I’m going to purchase a medical alert necklace. I’ve never worn one of these before, but I think in my case it may be more comfortable so then maybe I will wear it like I should.

Childhood obesity is so sad

I have to say that it really breaks my heart to see young children struggling with a weight problem. Not only is all this extra weight hard on their health, but because of the way society views them, they also end up with a lot of emotional issues as well due to the teasing they get from other kids. It’s a real shame when parents have to resort to giving their young kids diet pills to try to curb their excessive weight gain. Thankfully my kids have never experienced an issue like this, but it still breaks my heart to see other children going through these health problems.

Not just a problem for teens

All my life, I thought that acne was a teenagers disease. So you can imagine my surprise as the older I get, the more acne I seem to get as well. So to combat this latest problem in my life, I have been actively searching for an acne treatment that will not only help diminish these spots, but hopefully keep them from returning as well. Over the years I have tried numerous products and every time something new comes on the market, I’m probably the first in line to purchase it. As I approach my 40’s, I now have a lot of empathy for teens. I have come to realize that this is not just a young person’s problem.

I felt so bad for her

Last night I took my daughter, who is 9, to see our family doctor.  She has three warts on her hands which bother her quite a bit.  They are not painful, but they are unsightly and the kids at school do tease her a bit about them.  We have tried the over the counter medication, but nothing seems to work.  So after discussing the situation with my doctor’s nurse, she informed us that if Kara wanted them to they could do a procedure to remove them.  Of course Kara said yes and I made the appointment.

When we seen the doctor he did warn us that it is quite a painful procedure and if she didn’t want to do it she didn’t have to as nine times out of ten children who have this condition usually outgrow it on their own.  But she was determined to try it.  Unfortunately, she couldn’t handle the pain so they stopped the procedure.  So she still has the same problem but now she is willing to wait it out instead of go through that kind of pain again.

But, she was a trooper for trying and I did feel really bad for her to see her go through this type of ordeal.  So for now she’s stuck with her “pests” (as she calls them) and she is patiently waiting for them to leave.  If any one here knows of a method (without pain) that has worked for them or someone they know, I would love to hear from you.

I couldn’t believe it was her

It’s been over 20 years since I have seen my best friend from high school. Just out of the blue she called me last week and wanted to get together to re-connect. Although the phone call was a major surprise, I did jump at the chance to get to see her again. So you can imagine my major astonishment when I seen her at the coffee shop. When we were in high school she was a bit overweight and I couldn’t believe the weight loss she had achieved. I haven’t changed all that much since high school, but she certainly has. She looks great and feels great! Now that we’ve re-connected, we are both going to do everything in our power not to lose touch again.

Changing insurance companies

Well it’s almost that time of year. To arrange for more life insurance coverage. As I knew that this time of year was coming up, I have been checking around at different companies to see if I can get better rates on my life insurance. I really hate to switch companies, but If I can get a better rate somewhere else, then that is where I’m going to end up going. The only problem with a move of this kind is that I will need to fill out all all those forms again. Hopefully this time I don’t forget to fill out the medicare part d form like I did last time. Oh well, I have to do what I have to do to save any amount of money that I can.

They just can’t win

Just before Christmas both my younger kids came down with some pretty serious illnesses. My son had a massive ear infection and my daughter ended up with phenomia. Well my youngest son is sick again and I just got back from taking him to the doctor’s. He has phenomia. He just can’t win. It’s only been a couple of months since I had him in with the ear infection. But, now that we know what he has, he can be treated and hopefully start to feel better soon.

The shame of all this, is that today is the start to March break for the kids and he ends up not feeling well. But with his medicine, hopefully within the next couple of days he will be on his way to recovery and will be able to enjoy what is left of his March break.
